I don’t know if it was because yesterday was Cinco de Mayo or because it was the Calexico Cart’s first day stationed at 24th Street and Broadway; the line and wait for their tacos and burritos was outrageous. I waited 20 minutes for my burrito; but it was so worth it. I say they make the best burrito ever. Last year, I visited them once before with my brother at their Soho location. I loved the Calexico Carne Asada Burrito ($9.00) so much that I ordered it again. It is filled with grilled marinated skirt steak, rice, black beans, cheese, pico de gallo, and avocado crema. The steak chunks were tender, well seasoned, and there was a lot of it. Each bite was a delight.
I remember my brother ordered the Chipotle Pork Burrito ($8.00) which is pulled pork in chipotle sauce, rice, beans, cheese, pickled red onions, and Mexican crema.
Oh, and also, these burritos are huge! They must weigh like 2.5 lbs and are about a foot long. It was impossible for me to finish it.
I would make this a regular lunch spot; but I just wish the wait wasn’t so long.
