Yesterday’s Big Apple BBQ…lots of meat! #ribs #bbq #brisket #coleslaw #sausage #latergram (at Madison Square Park)
I eat. I cook. I travel. And I blog about it.
Lunched at Blue Smoke last week at their Battery Park location. Blue Smoke serves pretty good ribs. I ordered the Rib Sampler for One which comes with 2 pcs of the Memphis babyback ribs, 2 pcs of the Kansas City sparerib, and 1 pc of their Texas Salt & Pepper beef rib. I also ordered a side of their baked beans. The pork ribs had nice flavor, but I wasn’t too crazy about the beef rib. The meat was a little tough and the black pepper was a little overpowering. For dessert we shared a banana cream pie. The cookie crust was so good!
Blue Smoke is really kid friendly. The kid’s menu came with 2 ribs and fries and a choice of vanilla ice cream or brownie. I had to stop myself from stealing all of Kayla’s brownie because it was so good! They also gave out wikki stixs for them to play with and let them decorate their own pig shaped cookie with rainbow sprinkles. The kids had a great time.

Apparently, looking for some decent BBQ in Jersey is not easy. Other than the two ribs, the pull pork, smoke chicken, and brisket were pretty bland and a little dry and needed to be doused with a lot of sauce.
Tim said he’ll make dumplings with the leftovers… I wonder how those will turn out. :)

Sunday, July 3rd 12:00PM. It’s raining here. What a bummer to my Independence Day weekend. I bet a lot of you also had BBQ plans or something. Hopefully, the rain will stop and the sun will come out. In the meantime, a picture from the 9th Annual Big Apple BBQ Block Party event last month. Ribs…yum!

"Houston’s has the best ribs. I think there’s one in Jersey", says my uncle. And so, that is how we took a road trip to Hackensack, NJ to find the only Houston’s restaurant in the state.
We decided to do an early 5PM dinner on Saturday, but it still wasn’t early enough to beat the crowds. The maître d’ said the wait was 45 min-1 hour. The wait was totally worth it.
For starters we shared the spinach artichoke dip which I thought was pretty standard; nothing too special. Uncle and I both ordered the BBQ Ribs. Little cousin had the Hawaiian Ribeye and Aunt had the Roasted Prime Rib. The ribs were so tender they literally fell of the bone. It came with french fries and coleslaw which was superb as well. I tried a piece of the Hawaiian Steak and it was just so tender and juicy. It’s no wonder my little cousin claimed that she wanted to come back and said she’ll use her own money to have this meal again. I would also love to come back; this time to try their famous veggie burger.
