Last stop on NYC Restaurant Week was at Colicchio & Sons with a 10PM dinner reservation! At least it was worth the wait. I don’t know why I got the bone marrow; I just wanted to try it- nothing spectacular. The steak with roasted potatoes was great. Well seasoned and juicy! Then I had little bits of friend’s confit capon and skate and those were tasty as well. Polished everything off with a steamed Meyer lemon pudding. Pretty interesting. Would love to come back to try the regular menu.

I don’t know if it was because yesterday was Cinco de Mayo or because it was the Calexico Cart’s first day stationed at 24th Street and Broadway; the line and wait for their tacos and burritos was outrageous.  I waited 20 minutes for my burrito; but it was so worth it. I say they make the best burrito ever. Last year, I visited them once before with my brother at their Soho location.  I loved the Calexico Carne Asada Burrito ($9.00) so much that I ordered it again.  It is filled with grilled marinated skirt steak, rice, black beans, cheese, pico de gallo, and avocado crema. The steak chunks were tender, well seasoned, and there was a lot of it.   Each bite was a delight.

I remember my brother ordered the Chipotle Pork Burrito ($8.00) which is pulled pork in chipotle sauce, rice, beans, cheese, pickled red onions, and Mexican crema.

Oh, and also, these burritos are huge! They must weigh like 2.5 lbs and are about a foot long.  It was impossible for me to finish it.

I would make this a regular lunch spot; but I just wish the wait wasn’t so long.

Calexico Cart, 24th Street & Broadway, also at Prince & Wooster Street, and Restaurant(s) Location at 122 Union Street, Brooklyn and at 645 Manhattan Avenue, Brooklynwww.calexicocart.com

"Houston’s has the best ribs.  I think there’s one in Jersey", says my uncle.  And so, that is how we took a road trip to Hackensack, NJ to find the only Houston’s restaurant in the state.
We decided to do an early 5PM dinner on Saturday, but it still wasn’t early enough to beat the crowds.  The maître d’ said the wait was 45 min-1 hour. The wait was totally worth it.
For starters we shared the spinach artichoke dip which I thought was pretty standard; nothing too special.   Uncle and I both ordered the BBQ Ribs.  Little cousin had the Hawaiian Ribeye and Aunt had the Roasted Prime Rib.  The ribs were so tender they literally fell of the bone. It came with french fries and coleslaw which was superb as well.  I tried a piece of the Hawaiian Steak and it was just so tender and juicy.  It’s no wonder my little cousin claimed that she wanted to come back and said she’ll use her own money to have this meal again. I would also love to come back; this time to try their famous veggie burger.

Foods at Yankee Stadium are not just hamburgers and hot dogs.  You can get steak sandwiches and also italian sausages with “a nightmares” worth of onions and peppers as my server stated.  Also, a lemonade is a must even though it cost $5.25 a cup.
Too bad it rained that day and the game got cancelled.  What a bummer!

2011 NYC Winter Restaurant Week
I dined at Nougatine at Jean Georges; a contemporary French fusion restaurant located on Columbus Circle inside the Trump Tower and Hotel. It has a great view that overlooks Central Park. Overall, the food was good.  But I must say that I was disappointed with the main course because the steak was just too salty. My favorite of the night was the tuna tartar with ginger marinade appetizer and the warm chocolate cake for dessert. Zagat ratings are pretty high at 27/23/25, food/decor/service. I think one day I would want to come back to try their lobster burger that I saw on their regular menu. That sounded really good.

My company had our Christmas party this past Thursday.  Yes, Christmas party in November! It’s because this is the last week where all of us will be present at the same time. We had our Christmas lunch party at Hundred Acres restaurant located Soho. I had the steak & frites for my main course. The steak was tender and wonderfully marbleized. The seasoned frites were also excellent. I washed my meal down with their Gewurztraminer grape juice, citrus, & soda spritzer-very delicious! Finally, I polished off the meal with 3 scoops of Lemon Basil Sorbet. It was a very nice party with good food, lots of drinks, and secret santa gifts!
